Lentil Rice with Meat & Carrots

  • 8 cups water or 2 litres
  • 1½ cups lentil or 250 g, green, cooked
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 large onion or 200 g, finely chopped
  • 400 g minced beef
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 2 cubes MAGGI® Chicken Bouillon or 20 g
  • ½ cup hot water or 125 ml
  • 1 medium carrot or 100 g, grated
  • 1 cup raisins or 100 g
  • 2 cups basmati rice or 400 g
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 1 medium onion or 120 g, sliced & fried, optional garnish

How to Prepare

  1. Boil lentils in 1000 ml of water until ¾ cooked, drain and set aside.
  2. Heat vegetable oil, sauté chopped onions, minced meat until meat is cooked. Add cinnamon and MAGGI® Chicken Bouillon cubes, water and simmer for 5 mins.
  3. Add carrots, lentils and raisins to the mix, and remove from heat.
  4. Boil rice for 10 to 15 mins in remaining 1000 ml water until ¾ cooked (al dente), drain and set aside.
  5. Melt butter on the bottom of a rice pot, place ⅓ of the rice on top, layer half of the meat mixture, layer another ⅓ rice, the remaining meat mixture and cover with remaining ⅓ of the rice. Cover and cook for 20-30 mins until rice is cooked.
  6. Garnish with fried onions and serve hot.
