Mujadara with Meat & Pine Seeds

Ingredients

  • 2 cubes MAGGI® Chicken Bouillon
  • 8 cups water
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 6 cloves garlic, crushed
  • 2 cups green lentil, washed and drained
  • 2/3 cup Egyptian rice, washed and drained
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 small onion, thinly sliced
  • 300 g minced lamb/beef
  • 1/3 cup pine seeds
  • 2 teaspoons cumin powder
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper

How to Prepare

  1. Dissolve MAGGI® Chicken Bouillon cubes in water and set aside.
  2. Warm vegetable oil in a large pot. Fry chopped onions for 3 mins or until they become tender. Add garlic, MAGGI® Chicken Bouillon cubes and lentil. Bring to a boil and simmer on low heat for 50 mins or until the lentil is cooked.
  3. Blend the mixture using a hand blender or food processor until it becomes very smooth. Return the mixture back to the heat. Add the rice and simmer on low heat with constant stirring for 20 mins or until the rice is well cooked and the mixture thickens (add some hot water if needed).
  4. In a separate pan, heat butter. Add onions and fry till golden. Remove and set aside.
  5. In the same pan, fry minced meat until fully cooked. Add pine seeds and spices. Return the onion mixture to the pan and mix well.
  6. To serve, place the lentil stew in a large bowl and add a layer of meat and onion mixture on top.
  7. Serving Tip: Serve with lemon wedges.
