Philly Cheese Bake

Ingredients

  • For the filling:
  • 300 g beef sirloin steak, sliced thinly
  • 1 tablespoon MAGGI® Seasoning or 15 ml
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil or 15 ml
  • 1 large onion or 150 g, sliced
  • 1 packet white mushrooms or 250 g, washed and sliced
  • 1 medium green bell pepper or 100 g, de-seeded and diced
  • For the cheese sauce:
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 tablespoon plain flour
  • 2 cups hot water or 500 ml
  • 2 cubes MAGGI® Chicken Bouillon or 20 g
  • 1 cup cream or 250 ml
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper, cracked, fresh
  • 2 cups Swiss cheese or 300 g, grated
  • 1 packet macaroni pasta or 300 g
  • ½ cup Mozzarella cheese or 50 g, shredded

How to Prepare

  1. Preheat oven to 180°C and position oven rack at mid-level.
  2. To make filling: In a mixing bowl combine steak slices and MAGGI® Seasoning sauce and allow to marinate for 5-10 mins.
  3. Meanwhile heat vegetable oil in a frying pan over medium-high heat and sauté onions, and peppers until soft and tender. Remove from pan and set aside.
  4. Using the same pan, sauté marinated beef slices for 3-4 mins, add mushrooms and return the onion and peppers to the pan. Mix all ingredients and remove from heat.
  5. To make cheese sauce: In a large saucepan, melt butter, add flour and sauté until flour turns slightly golden.
  6. Add hot water, MAGGI® Chicken Bouillon, cooking cream, and Swiss cheese and stir on medium heat until cheese is dissolved. Taking care not to overheat the cream.
  7. Add un-cooked pasta to the pot and allow pasta to cook halfway.
  8. Pour the half-cooked pasta and sauce mixture into a large round baking dish, gently pack down and spread cooked meat mixture on top.
  9. Sprinkle grated Mozzarella cheese on top and bake in the oven for 30-40 mins or until golden on top and the pasta is soft.
