Spaghetti Bolognese Upside Down

  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil or 15 ml
  • 1 large onion or 150 g finely chopped
  • 800 g minced beef
  • 3 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon ground turmeric
  • ½ teaspoon ground black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon ground allspice
  • 1 teaspoon ground oregano
  • 2 cups hot water or 500 g
  • 2 cubes MAGGI® Chicken Bouillon or 20 g
  • 2 small tomatoes or 100 g diced
  • 1 packet spaghetti or 400 g
  • 8 cups water or 2 liters
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil or 15 ml
  • 1 large potato or 200 g peeled and sliced into 5 mm disks.

How to Prepare

  1. In a large pan, heat vegetable oil over medium high heat and sauté onions for 2 mins, add minced beef and sauté for an additional 5 mins until beef is cooked.
  2. Add tomato paste, turmeric, black pepper, all-spice and oregano and cook for an additional minute.
  3. Add hot water, MAGGI® Chicken Bouillon and tomatoes, cover and simmer for 10 mins until sauce is somewhat thick.
  4. Cook pasta in boiling water until al dente. Drain pasta and discard water.
  5. Drizzle 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil into the bottom of a large non-stick rice pot. Arrange potato slices on the bottom, layer 1/3 of the cooked pasta on top, spoon over 1/3 of the meat sauce over the past. Repeat alternate layers of pasta and meat sauce.
  6. Cover pot, place over medium low heat and allow to cook for 30 mins.
  7. Remove from heat, allow to rest for 5 mins uncovered.
  8. Place a large platter over the pot and carefully flip the pasta onto the plate.
  9. The potatoes should be cooked and slightly golden with the pasta fully cooked and soft.
